36in*144ft Paper Based Asphalt Roofing Felt Bitumen Roll Roofing Underlayment
Introduction:
An underlayment that over-performs. asphalt roofing felt is made of a special kind of raw paper then saturated with bitumen, that is completely waterproof. It forms an effective water-shedding barrier under shingles or alternative roofing materials, such as shakes, tiles, slate or metal. Even in cold weather, it’s incredibly flexible, and easy to work with.
Characteristic:
- Lays flatter - heavy-duty design minimizes the wrinkling that can occur with cheaper felts
- Better protection - superior asphalt saturation means improved waterproofing
- Easier application - accurate lay lines allow for easier, more consistent shingle application
- Safer - preferred by many contractors for its superior slip-resistance, especially in warm climates
- Code compliant - meets ASTM D-226/4869
Installation:
Do not walk on the felt that is not securely fastened to the roof. Always use proper safety equipment during installation. Roofing felt should be installed from the bottom of the roof in horizontal layers to increase the ability of the rain water to shed off the felt. The initial layer of the felt should be installed to cover the bottom edge of the decking, from edge to edge. Overhang is not required. Position the felt and anchor the top corner, then roll the felt out across the roof. Be sure to roll the felt smoothly to avoid wrinkles. The top edge of the felt should be fastened approximately every eight inches, as well as, the middle and bottom edge. The second layer should overlap the first layer to the 2” lap line. If the roll of felt should run out before you reach the edge of the roof, then overlap the previous felt 4” with the new roll (end lap). The fastening pattern used on the first layer should be used on all subsequent layers. If you do have wrinkles, slice the wrinkles with a utility knife and fasten them flat to the deck. If the primary roof is not installed immediately, seal the cuts with waterproofing cement.
Storage/Care:
We recommend that the rolls be kept in a dry area out of the weather. If you are applying the felt in cold weather, we recommend storing it in a warm place at least 24 hours before applying to roof.
Application/Use:
Organic felt is an underlayment and moisture barrier between the primary roof (for example asphalt shingles) and the roof decking. It is not intended to be a primary roof. We recommend that the primary roof be installed immediately after the application of the felt.
